Is it okay to have wheat products before 1 year old?
I read some books saying that wheat is highly allergenic and it’s better to introduce after babies are 1 year old. My baby is 8 and 1/2 months old. He’s ready to have some finger food. I’ve tried to find non-wheat bread for him, but it’s difficult. Besides, I see many babies’ finger food at stores all contains wheat. So, I’m really wondering if it is okay to have wheat products before 1 year old?
If yes, where can I buy non-wheat finger food for my baby?
It really depends on what the genetic heritage is. If there is a history of celiac disease you’ll lower the incidence if celiac disease by introducing wheat before 6 months, but it would interfere with nursing if you nurse. If there is no history of wheat allergies, then it’s no issue. If a sibling or parent has wheat allergies then wait. Beside, rice is actually more allergenic then wheat, soybean is equally allergenic to wheat, that doesn’t leave much sources of starch.
if all the baby finger foods have wheat in them then o.k

No its not safe to give wheat products before the age of one because of allergy develpments , try things that are not with wheat such as rice cakes , fruit , etc

It’s only not suggested because thier stomachs are sensitive. But if there are no food allergies on your side or the fathers side there shouldn’t be a problem.

Natural food stores usually have lots of non-wheat products. And yes, it is highly allergic. I’ve known adults with wheat allergies, and they get really sick if they eat it accidentally. Also, there’s nothing definitive, but there are theories out there linking wheat allergy exposure at young ages to autism. No one knows for sure if there is a link, but better to be safe than sorry, I would think.

If there’s no history of a what allergy on either side of the family it should be fine to give your child small amounts of bread etc. My children have been offered bread and cereals since they were able to eat finger foods and i’ve never had a problem.
