In Rural Virginia, Relief is Rare for Uninsured

WISE COUNTY, VA. On a sunny Saturday at the county fairgrounds in this Appalachian community, the gaps in the American health care system were on vivid display.

Lured by the promise of a weekend of free checkups, surgeries and dental care, thousands of people braved the summer heat to get care they otherwise could not afford. For more on this story read the full report here.

    The Evangelical …
The Evangelical Christian Pharisees and their henchmen in the Republican Party have never had to suffer like this.

I wish there a Jesus so he could kick them into for turning their backs on the poor.

  3. these people should …
these people should give up their citizenship/slavery voucher and act as sovereign on land
as sovereigns they can pool their resources and act as insurance pools out of teh jurisdiction of the US corporation based in pagan city of washington DC (Dumb Corporation)

  4. No, this shouldn’t …
No, this shouldn’t be happening in the richest nation in the world! We are the #1 superpower who can spend billions of dollars on high tech defense systems, wars, bailing out Wall St. and yet we CAN’T help the uninsured, the working poor, those who are laid off, afford decent medical insurance so they can get health care?!? What a disgrace.

    Lord, where is …
Lord, where is America’s soul? This is Haiti in the hills. Unconscionable that this is happening to Americans.

  7. .

    I want to know …
    .

I want to know why Congress thinks I DON’T deserve affordable health care.

Or, more correctly, why Congress thinks multi-conglomerates deserve to profit FROM keeping me away from affordable options?

  8. This man deserves …
This man deserves the Noble Peace Prize. A sheer saint. Thank you Stan for being with us during these times and showing us what love is.

  10. It just didn’t come …
    It just didn’t come across in your post. Perhaps an emoticon would have helped ;.}

BTW – I’m neither a Dem or Rep. In their current form both represent extremes, the lunatic fringe that are usually led around by their reactionary noses and have yet to generate an original thought.

I’m more of a, “It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office.” — H. L. Mencken

  11. There’s this thing …
There’s this thing called sarcasm, I know that in text it doesn’t translate well, perhaps if I was yo say “Imagine avid Spade saying this” you’d get it.

It’s fairly clear that neither DVLBP or tbgx1 caught it, so there you both go. Read my comment in a snarky, David Spade as a fight attendant way, and you’ll get the joke.

Honestly, you’s swear that when someone decided, “okay I’m a right-winger” they have their funny bone removed and replaced with an outrage sphincter.

  12. The AMA, the …
The AMA, the insurers and the pharmacological companies are getting a pass on a lot of what is wrong with healthcare. If we fail to address those issues we are just putting a band aid on a gunshot wound.

  13. Richest is a …
Richest is a comparative term that compares nations in that sentence. All places and all times have had varying social strata.

Do you imagine that in the various ‘worker’s paradises’ of the 20th century the apparatchiks and their cohorts didn’t live much higher on the hog that the simplest worker?

I agree we can do much better by our people. The real argument isn’t coming from either extreme and the plans we have seen so far don’t address the core issues.

  14. nite – Not every …
nite – Not every opposition is racially biased. The whole race card mentality is a childish game where no black can be criticized because they are always ’safe on base’.

At what point will people like you stop infantilizing blacks and let their thoughts and ideas compete in the open market place of adult discourse?

  15. Dumbshit. Project …
    Dumbshit. Project much?

I supported Obama, it’s just that I have a brain capable of seeing the difference between what one say’s and what one does.

    Now what bitch?

  16. While Id like to …
While Id like to see healthcare for all, the change that is needed is needed is not whats being offered. The real question before us is, “What aspects need changing?” Instead of plugging an otherwise good tire on a Lexus the Obama, Pelosi, Reid & Co. crowd (mob?) want to buy a shiny new Yugo for the cost of a Rolls Royce.

  17. What many Americans …
What many Americans understand regarding their own lives, but seem to have trouble understanding also applies to the government, is that there is a limit to the funds available. There are 168 hours in a week. Theoretically we could work three full time jobs and still get 6 hours sleep a day. On paper it works, in reality we know better.

  18. Just as we cant …
Just as we cant manage three full time jobs, the governments must control spending. Trade-offs are necessary to keep from diminishing the very source of those funds the tax base. Take a total of every tax penny you pay right down to the taxes on gas to laundry detergent. Now make a list of every entitlement you think that buys you and your fair share of the costs in maintaining those items. The naked truth is your tax payments list will be far lower than your ‘entitled to’ list.

  19. It needs to be …
It needs to be recognized that just as in our personal lives, there are ideals hoped for, and then there is the reality of what is reasonably achievable.

  20. It should be a …
It should be a basic right to have health and dental coverage. Just as it is a right to expect our water to be healthy! The amount of money in one’s pocket should not determine access to good health care. Simple as that. Lack of health care coverage is more of a threat on us individually than any outside terrorist’s threats!

We are told we live …
We are told we live in the richest country in the world, so why is it that millions of Americans cannot afford to live here.

  22. I’m right in the …
I’m right in the same boat, too. I’ve heard so many conservatives on the youtubes say the classic “get a job” line… or “YOU choose not to have insurance”.

I use to have good teeth, but now I have serious problems. Just tonight, I had a freakin chunk of tooth fall out of my face. I worry about getting an infection in my heart because of my problems, it’s just crazy.

I see TeaBaggers talking about HUGO CHAVEZ and ending all civil discourse at heath care meetings. WTF is going on here?

    I’d love to see …
I’d love to see Limbaugh, Beck or their minions show up here! I keep waiting for those brown shirted memaws and pepaws to give up their Medicare!

  24. These are the …
These are the people who many against health care for everyone have called “Leeches” and “parasites”

I tam among these ‘Leeches”. I work and pay taxes but somehow I and these others don’t deserve any help.

Only us crazy people would look at this and wonder how we are supposed to be the greatest country on Earth when we allow so many fellow americans to suffer like this.

  25. Yeah! There are …
Yeah! There are Racist Democrats too, See tbx1’s comment for details.
