The percentage of boys in the class would decline as age increased as many of the boys would leave (not necessarily of their own volition) to work on the family farm.

Since the school would have a student body with a wide range of ages and because teachers of that era were much more authoritarian, I&#039;d bet it likely that the oldest or most mature student would be selected by the teacher as the class representative.

I don&#039;t know what the sentiment regarding the women&#039;s movement was in MN at the time, but if the movement was not in favor with the local school board, or even the teacher, a campaign such as you describe would probably have been squelched.&lt;br&gt;&lt;b&gt;References : &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>
