@loganrapp I’d disagree with that. I’m pretty certain that Craig is a practicing Catholic. That’s what I’ve gathered from his lyrics and interviews anyway.

    youre ‘novel’ …
youre ‘novel’ analogy is perfect. one of my friends asked me why he always repeated from other songs and “why he cant come up with new lines.” because its a story. not a line. and the story doesnt end with the song. AND it lets you know who actually listens to the music to know what/who hes talking about. good shit.

  12. RHCP suck. I’m …
RHCP suck. I’m offended that anyone would even bring them into a discussion about the Hold Steady.

  13. Why is he being …
Why is he being voted down? What Craig Finn does with his songs is true – drugs and religion are often used in the same context with the same analogies.

If you don’t support it, whatever, but voting down the comment is retarded. It’s just plain fact.

  14. A song that tells a …
A song that tells a story. The Hold Steady’s songs are not told in a vacuum – they interweave with other songs in past and current albums (especially in Separation Sunday) to create characters that reappear and progress (or regress).

Imagine a novel where each chapter is a self-contained short story, but finds ways to connect with other stories. That’s how Craig Finn writes, so “it’s a song” doesn’t quite cut it for The Hold Steady.

Amazing comment. Candidate for best comment ever, on the entire youtube machine.

Additionally, he plays his guitar a lot in other songs.

  21. the reason he …
the reason he brings that onstage is because he is a badass don’t u feel cooler when you are holding a guitar

  22. love the song, love …
love the song, love the band, but seriously, why does craig finn even bother bringing a guitar on stage if he never plays it?

  23. They’re definitely …
They’re definitely not active Christians, I can tell you that. Craig’s stories generally involve drug use and religion as interchangeable.

  24. yeah man…I see …
yeah man…I see where you’re coming from but I think its interesting. I think its good that they’re a band that doesn’t play each song the exact same time every night…No hard feelings, I hate arguing over the internet

  25. Does anyone know …
Does anyone know where I can find a guitar tab for this song?
