What are the qualifications of Medicaid in Indiana?

I am married and my husband’s and my income combined comes to a total of about $28,000 a year before taxes. We are renting a house and we own a car that is not worth more than $1000. We have a good amount of money in the bank, but that is mostly because we have a lot of family and friends that gave us money as wedding gifts. We need to save that money to buy a house. Neither one of our jobs even provide us with a choice to have insurance through them and we obviously can’t pay for it on our own. If I’m pregnant would we qualify for Medicaid in Indiana? Is there any other help we would qualify for?
I’ve searched and searched on websites and they don’t seem to give very good answers to what the income level and asset levels in your bank accounts are. Also, my husband and I have seperate accounts. Will they want to know what is in both of our accounts or can I just give them his?
If someone gets Hoosier Healthwise Package B for pregnant women do they have to pay anything? and if they do what do they have to pay?
we make $2400 combined monthly. (before taxes) if that helps anyone answer my question.

  1. I live in Ohio but you usually have to have a small income to be qualify for Medicaid. You could just apply and see what happens. But I will tell you that they take into account bank accounts as income.

  2. The best bet would be just go and pick up an application and apply, the worst tehy acan say is no…I was told by my social worker that they have to include any money in savings accounts, stocks or cds.

Most states will allow pregnant women on mediciad throw there 6 weeks postnatal appointment. My husband makes around 24000 a year and I was able to get mediciad and wic in Virgina, good luck

  3. I believe you have to be at the poverty line or lower to receive medicaid. It’s a Federal program isn’t it? I think so, therefore it’s the same in all states, but probably mandated per each state’s cost of living.

They will take into account your savings. You cannot be saving for a luxury item while utilizing the State’s medicaid money. It is sat aside for those who don’t even have savings and make less than you.

I would suggest focusing on gaining proper health care by privately financing it. You will have to delay your house saving unfortunately.

  4. i live in indiana and i know if you make over 2000 a month you wont be quailfied for medicaid. if i were you guys i would not say you guys have a bank account cuz they would want copy’s of that. also when you fill out the papers when it ask if your jobs supply health insurance, i would mark no. i dont think they will deny you if your pregnant.

  6. They are going to want to know all but what type of soap you wash with.
They will want to know book value of vehicles-even atv’s. My brother worked a $300 a week job, his girlfriend $90 a week, they were shot down the first time. (IN Indiana) But, good luck. I was told there is a copay Medicaid that will assist you only because you don’t have insurance, not based on salary.
