A gold standard …
A gold standard isn’t perfect, as seen in rome you can inflate the currency by tossing in brass, nickel etc. or by shaving gold coins.
I believe the best way to go are by competing currencies (think American Express, VISA, and small institutions issuing their own currencies.) You will be able to choose which currency is best (Credit rating, if its backed by gold,silver etc. or if its accepted in the most areas) and competition would force companies to provide the best for the consumer.

@Rotschild1957, I agree with you on fiat currencies.. but is gold – now that the vast majority of it is owned by so few and is controlled by the super rich via the IMF – the best kind of new money? Wouldn’t something that is currently more distributed throughout society be better? Or at least obtainable by honest governments that can control it’s distribution? I fear that if we go to gold, the economy will still be easily manipulated by those who control the majority of the gold

A gold standard with money because we want to keep on trading easily, also digitally. If money is always changeable to gold it’s workable for society. Really trading only in physical gold is not practical and not necessary if you can always change to gold.
But ok, probably we’re going back to a gold standard, doesn’t matter what we say, the money of today will destroy itself and we will use gold automatically, like in Zimbabwe. When society starts up again we will have gold based money.

I agree with you. Moreover, Gold and Silver backed notes are necessary if you want maximum freedom and liberty.
Conversely, fiat currency requires monitoring the volume of commerce, and probably even census taking. I realize that these cumbersome infringements on liberty already exist, but I believe we should be going in the direction of eliminating them. A non-monopolistic, commodities-backed currency is the best way.

A currency backed by an amount of gold wil restore trust.
Without money it’s only paper.
It worked in the colony but only because
1. it was a limited time
2. the politicians were to be trusted
3. the government was small
4. it was a time of economic upturn
These 4 things you can not rely on. That is why gold IS the answer, it is money. We don’t need to trade in gold but we do need to trade in paper/ digital money that can be exchanged to gold any moment, that is trust.
