What are the benefits of switching dogs to a grain-free diet?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under grain | 11 Comments »

I’ve been feeding my dogs Eukanuba dog food and I’ve recently decided to switch to a better food. I came across grain-free kibble and I’m thinking of switching to Taste Of The Wild.
What will be the benefits of this change?

My dog was more active & had even a shinier coat, but this doesn’t work for all dogs, for some it’s too rich. It’s usually a good idea though!

I think TOTW is the best.

Has anyone ever tired to shear miniture scottish highlander cattle?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under cattle | 1 Comment »

I want to know if it is possiable to shear miniture scottish highland cattle, and if so how do you do it?

I have not shorn anything for years. However, you will need a shearing machine.

The animal will probably not be amenable to the shearing process, so you will need to securely tether it to a robust post. The legs will need to be hobbled to prevent it kicking. Then you will be ready to go!

You might be well advised to ask your nearest shepherd to do the job.

What is the typical sentence for marijuana cultivation in New York?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under cultivation | 2 Comments »

Besides what norml.org provides, what are the sentencing guidelines for committing such an offense? Please provide any articles relevant to the topic.

Growing marijuana or knowingly allowing it to be grown without destroying it is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail. Public Health Law 33.82, 33.83, 33.96.

Federal drug laws parallel New York State drug laws in many respects. For example, it is a Federal offense to manufacture, distribute, or possess with intent to distribute, a controlled substance or a counterfeit controlled substance. Under the New York Penal Code, any property associated with the unlawful handling of controlled substances may be forfeited to the authorities. Federal law also provides that a person age 18 or older who distributes a controlled substance to a person under 21 years of age may be sentenced to a term of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to twice the amount authorized for distribution to a person over the age of 21.

Can a credit bank take money out of your banking account without consent from you?

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010 and filed under bank of | 4 Comments »

This credit bank states they had authorization from a judge to get a marshall to find any open bank accounts in my name and with money and they took $1400. They said I was sent mail statements of what was going on. Now my bank did not even call me to verify this large amount taken out nor was I warned. Is this illegal for just going into someones account and taking money? Can this be brought to court??

Its not the banks fault they dont really have a say. Its a court order and if they tried to notify everyone thats in the same situation they wouldnt be able to. The legal department of a bank goes through so much. Its really the creditor you have to be mad at because they usually claim to mail you the information but you never get it so you dont go to court.

Know the onlly thing that sounds a little weird to me is that the money should be in your account, just the bank put a hold on it. The bank usually will not release any funds until you allow them to. You usually have to call the creditors lawyer reach an agreement and then authorized the bank to release the funds. Or you can try to fight it but your money is going to be frozen in your account until you come to some agreement.

What’s the difference between whole wheat bread and white bread?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under wheat | 5 Comments »

And how is the former healthier and more diet-friendly than the latter?

Also, is whole grain bread healthier and less caloric than whole wheat bread?

Bread is made up of wheat. Wheat comes with a shell around it. In white bread, you take the shell off. In 100% whole wheat bread, you leave it on. If it’s just called "whole wheat" or "whole grain" then some of the shells are removed and some are not.

The shell is healthy because it has fiber and vitamins. The shell is a lot like the skin of an apple. You know how people always say you should eat the skin because it’s the healthiest part?

Whole wheat bread has a little less calories than white bread. But the shells in whole wheat bread also keep your body from absorbing some of the calories. So, it impacts your caloric intake greatly.

what is the best way to bring out wood grain?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under grain | 8 Comments »

I have some pine that I would love to make the wood grain stand out more on. What would be the best method of doing this any why?? Staining? Bleaching? Waxing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Martin.

Staining will be the best method to bring out the wood grain.

Bleaching actually removes the color pigmentation from the wood.

If you prefer a lighter color finish, use a light colored stain.

Top it off with a protective finish. This top coat could be wax, varnish, lacquer, or polyurethane. Poly gives the hardest finish, if your project needs it. Lacquer and varnish are common finishes too. (I prefer to use either a catalyzed lacquer, or polyurethane myself)

Is now a good time to start raising cattle?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under cattle | 7 Comments »

We want to rise cattle to feed our family, that will only take about 2 head a year. We also want to raise them to sell to the slaughter house, and at auctions! We are also considering raising Black Angus, we already own the land to put the cattle on! This is in Arkansas, thanks so much for you time!

Ok, I been a stockman for over 25 years so here it goes:
First off, Black Angus are the hottest beef cow there is now! You have to buy what will bring the best price at the point of sale. Angus are attractive because they yield a high percentage of usable beef per pound of weight They usually produce somewhere in the low 60% range…so if your calf weighs 800lb it would dress out at about 480lbs of beef. Other good breeds are the Herefords, Red Angus, Beefmasters and Charlois. Check the OK State University’s site for a complete list of breeds and their characteristics.
Now, do you want to buy cows, breed them and have the calves to sell?? If you go that way, be forewarned, it takes patience. And, you have to have a bull to breed them…more expense. What I suggest you do is buy calves ( in the 300-450 lbs range) and let them live on the grass. Buy them in the spring and sell them in the fall ( or slaughter when big enough for your taste) This way , you don’t have to worry about freezing water supplies, feeding them a lot of hay to keep body hear up in the winter, or vaccinations if they are preworked. Its a fast turnaround on your money….much faster than raising a calf from birth which can take over a year.
Here’s another tip….buy from a local cattleman not a sale barn. Sale barns are a good concept, but like anything where large numbers are involved ( public housing, school cafeterias, etc) they sacrifice quality to produce the masses. I mean sales barns get cattle from lots of different producers, so they cant know the history of each animal like a local guy can…..well, good luck and enjoy!
