  • What is the difference between whole wheat and whole cracked wheat?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 and filed under wheat | 2 Comments »

I will only buy bread that is whole wheat and I always read the ingredients. If the first ingredient is 100% whole wheat, then I will buy it, but what’s the difference between 100% whole wheat and cracked wheat. They all taste the same. Thanks.

Whole-wheat or 100% wheat can be misleading. It only means that it has nothing but wheat, it still does not guarantee that it has all the parts of the wheat berry.
Whole-grain wheat or Whole-meal wheat is what you want to ensure that al the wheat nutrients are available. Cracked wheat is whole-grain wheat that has been sheared but not ground to form flour. It just gives you a different chewy texture.
Always look at label it should say two things
    1. No Trans-fats
    2. Whole-grain

How can I start cattle ranching in Texas?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 and filed under cattle | 2 Comments »

Please if you know what I need to do in order to start cattle ranching in Texas please let me know, only serious responses. Thank you.

Cattle ranching is not something to get into lightly. But if you are serious, find out who your county agricultural extension agent is. Meet with him (or her) and they can tell you the right way to get started in your area. As well as what types of hay, feed and medications you will require.

How did the rise of the cotton cultivation affect the economy and the people of the Old South?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 and filed under cultivation | 5 Comments »

How did the rise of the cotton cultivation affect the economy and the people of the Old South in atleast three major effects? Thanks in advance!

The introduction of cotton cultivation turned the South into a land of economic extremes. Even among whites, it led to huge variations in material conditions and daily experiences. A large amount of wealth in land and slaves was concentrated along a small percentage of the white population and the rest were usually tenant farmers. It led to a huge increase in the number of slaves contained in the South. The institution of slavery discouraged immigrants from moving to the South in large numbers because they realized slave labor would undercut their wages. The slaves also developed thier own culture and aimed to preserve their West Africans customs on the plantations. The slavery issue also contributed to the tension between the rhetoric of freedom and the reality of the growing number of slaves.

Who was the first female to smoke in the White House?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 and filed under first | 3 Comments »

It’s commonly known that Pat Nixon and Jackie Kennedy were chain smokers, although they kept it out of the public eye. It’s also commonly known that Rachel Jackson smoked a corn cob pipe, but she died before ever living in the White House. So who was the first female to smoke in the White House? First Lady or First Daughter, perhaps?

Alice Roosevelt (Longworth), the daughter of Teddy Roosevelt, was a smoker who caused quite a sensation with her daring to smoke, at first in private, and eventually in public. It was quite a scandal at the time (1901 — 1909). She was the first.

What is the process for a bank kicking us out of our home due to payment defaults.?

Posted by admin on September 30th, 2009 and filed under bank of | 4 Comments »

I am months behind in repayments of my home loan. House now worth less than mortgage amount. I have received a letter from the bank asking us to move out in two weeks. Unable to manage that financially and was wondering how much time I have up my sleeve before we are ordered out. What is the process and likely time line ?

You should be swimming in money after months of free housing.

If this is not your eviction notice you have about 3 more weeks before you are forcibly removed by the sheriff.

Having an eviction, in addition to defaulting on your loan, will make finding any housing at all very difficult for the next decade.

Wheat Gluten: Its available in stores to help in bread making. Got any comments on using it?

Posted by admin on September 28th, 2009 and filed under wheat | 2 Comments »

Wasn’t there a wheat gluten issue when all the dog food became dangerous and suspicious?
What does wheat gluten do to a loaf of bread anyway? One answerer today said the loaves will double in size… What’s the skinny?
    Thanks very much.

I used to bake bread from all purpose flour, which is low in gluten. It is good for sauces and pastry, but not for bread. I added 60 grams per kilogram of powdered gluten and my bread ended up like the best loaf I have ever made. Gluten is like very slack chewing gummy stuff that forms little bubbles in the dough to capture the gas produced by yeast. Flour low on gluten yields crummy, cake-like bread.

How do I rid my pantry of a grain and salt eating insect parasite?

Posted by admin on September 28th, 2009 and filed under grain | 1 Comment »

My pantry is full of little, crawling insects, which appear to have wings but which I have never seen fly. They are dark and each a bit smaller than a grain of rice. Here’s what I’ve done in an effort to get rid of them.

I disposed of all grain products, dry food products, and products with salt or refined sugars. I bleached down tin cans of food, glass bottles of vinegar and molasses, and aerosol cans of butter substitutes. I washed the cabinet out with bleach water and double washed all cookware with bleach and hot water.

I painted the inside of the pantry and the shelves with "KILZ" white paint. I put cocoa proucts and spices which appeared free of insects in the pantry and have not yet moved them back.

BUT THE BUGS ARE BACK! Even though there is no grain…they latched onto a jar of table salt I put back in the pantry a few days after the paint dried and they are everywhere!

    Help!

It sounds like you have done the right things. Maybe (probably) what you are now seeing is the latest hatch.
If your pantry is empty you could try one of the commercial insect bombs that you set off and close the door while it works. This should get the bugs before they reproduce. Some how you need to interrupt their breeding cycle.
In the meantime keep your food items sealed up against these intruders.
    You can win the battle.
